He pursued his PhD studies at MIT Department of Chemistry under Professor Richard R. Schrock, the Nobel Prize Winner in chemistry. When the former head of the Chemistry Department approached Scott about the possibility of supporting the projects in the department, he immediately responded by asking about the most urgent need.
