Jeremy Goldstein: A Tale of Brilliance and Humility in the Face of Career Success

In everything he does, professional lawyer Jeremy Goldstein puts people and the relationships he forms with them at the center of it. He is the founding partner of New York-based Jeremy L. Goldstein & Associates firm that specializes in employment law, specifically executive compensation and corporate governance. Professionally, Jeremy Goldstein focuses on mergers and acquisitions of large corporations and has portfolio contains such names as Verizon Wireless, Phillips Petroleum Company, J.P. Morgan Chase, Miller Brewing Company, and MBNA Corporation among many others.

Born and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, the 46-year-old extraordinaire has accumulated an impressive collection of degrees that proves his brilliance and dedication. Before he earned his law degree from the New York University School of Law, Jeremy had graduated with a masters degree from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University, which he earned in 1995.

Jeremy worked with prominent law firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions in New York before he founded his own firm. As an upcoming attorney, he observed executive compensation consulting firms breaking off from their parent organizations and becoming independent and realized that it would not be too long before the legal industry suffers the same fate.

This inspired him to start his own law firm to handle only executive compensations, mergers, and acquisitions matters. His firm solves many problems plaguing CEOs and upper management teams such as conflict of interest and contract enforcement. The close relationships he formed with colleagues and clients were the solid network connections that enabled him to land clients after he founded his firm, and to go ahead and become profitable within five years of launch.

It did not take long before Jeremy L. Goldstein & Associates stood out from the crowd, and Jeremy himself became a very successful lawyer. This is largely because of his commitment to connect with everyone he interacts with, and to go the extra mile to provide exceptional legal advice, representation and assistance.

Outside the office, Jeremy Goldstein is an active and impactful member of the community. He chairs a sub-commitee within the Business Section of American Bar Association and remains a contributing member of New York University’s Journal of Law and Business and a member of its Professional Advisory Board. He is frequently invited to speak at many professional events and his name appears on professional lists including Chambers USA Guide and The Legal 500 lists. He is also a board member at The Fountain House, a charity for adults with or recovering from mental illnesses.

Jeremy Goldstein Hosts Event To Benefit Mental Health Charity

Jeremy Goldstein is a New York-based attorney and the founding partner of Jeremy L. Goldstein & Associates, a boutique firm that provides a range of corporate governance and executive compensation services. In his role with the company, Goldstein has been a part of several large acquisition proceedings, including Duke Energy/Progress Energy, Merck/Schering Plough and the purchase of Goodrich by United Technologies. Jeremy Goldstein has also been involved with the American Bar Association Business Section, where he serves as the Mergers & Acquisition Subcommittee. The legal professional has been involved in a wealth of non-profit and charitable organizations, both before and after founding his own firm.

Most recently, he held a charity wine dinner called Mental Illness: You Are not A Rhone, which was held in the Nomad Hotel Roofdeck on May 21. The event was to benefit the Fountain House, a charity which focuses on supporting and treating people who suffer from mental health issues. Founded in 1944, the organization not only helps people with their illnesses but looks to improve awareness for the challenges that many may face when overcoming their problems. Originally called We Are Not Alone, the non-profit changed its name after moving to a new building in 1948, which happened to have a fountain as one of the main exterior attractions.

The Fountain House notes that more and more people have been suffering from mental health issues in recent years, with the World Health Organization highlighting that 25% of people will suffer from such an illness at some point in their lives. The charity has also noted that 20% of people go to a mental health specialist every year to address their illness. Throughout the past few years, the non-profit has gathered a significant amount of information on the challenges that mental health sufferers face as the result of their illness, with high unemployment being one of the largest; according to Fountain House, 15% of mental health patients remain in long-term unemployment.

Because of this, the charity has established a variety of initiatives to help tackle this issue, with the Fountain House Employment Program being one of the more prominent. Since being established, the program has been able to place a significant number of its patients back into employment, thanks in large part to the support and other services that it offers. With the younger people that the Fountain House works with, it notes that it’s helped a considerable number of them graduate from high school at a rate of 77%, significantly more than the 32% that graduate without help. For this to happen, however, the Fountain House requires funding regularly, which is what Jeremy Goldstein looked to address with the Mental Illness: You Are not A Rhone event.
