Whitney Wolfe: Paving the Way for Women in App Development

Whitney Wolfe has found a way to show women they can be empowered by the application development world. Starting off as the V.P. of marketing for the wildly popular Tinder dating app, Whitney decided to forge her own path after a lawsuit for sexual harassment and discrimination was settled out of court. In doing so, she has been able to create an app that gives women the power to make the first move: Bumble.

Not only is Bumble a dating app, but Whitney Wolfe the additions of Bumble BFF (which helps women find a new best friend) and Bumble Bizz (helping in professional networking) have created a new way for women to be able to communicate and “make the first move”. Something that, in the past, was quite unheard of.

Whitney Wolfe has her Bachelors of Arts, obtained through Southern Methodist University. With this experience, she has found a way to go from Vice President of Marketing to C.E.O. of her own app. In recent news articles, she has credited the early success of Bumble to marketing through influencers including Instagram users and working with consumers of the dating app. In order to create a wildly popular market, those consumers recommended networking on a much wider basis, which included finding friends as well as networking colleagues.

With her rising fame, Whitney Wolfe has been named one of Time 100’s most influential people this year, as well as being named one of Forbes 30 under 30 in 2017.

Though she has created one of the most successful dating apps, Whitney Wolfe did not need to utilize it for herself. She married Michael Herd in 2017, in a beautiful wedding set in Positano, Italy.

The amount of effort put into the application development world is not to be taked for granted. Whitney Wolfe Herd has gone through her share of demeaning in the early parts of her career, but her light can help guide women to become what they deserve: empowered.
