The Chainsmokers are an extremely popular EDM / Pop duo made up of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall. 2018 has been a really successful year for them, so much in fact, that they are landed at the number two position on the list of the World’s Highest-Paid DJs. They beat out some really famous names in the EDM genre, including Diplo and David Guetta. In all the success of their three year residency deal with Wynn Nightlife and there popular tracks “Closer” and “Something Like This,” it doesn’t seem like the popularity or the success for the Chainsmokers will be burning out anytime soon.
In 2018, the total earnings of the Chainsmokers success is estimated at $45.5 million. This is due to the residency and having huge success with recently released singles. Although they do have several recently release singles, they are still experiencing success on their debut album, Memories…Do Not Open. It has been well over a year since the release of this album, and it is still number one on Billboard’s Top Dance and Electronic Chart. This means that The Chainsmokers are tied with the Gorillaz’s album Demon Days for the third place for the most weeks at number one on the Dance and Electronic Chart’s history. It’s pretty certain to say that the tie will be broken soon, especially since the Gorillaz’s album does not get that many spins anymore, but the Chainsmokers are still releasing music and reaching new fans by the day.
This year, The Chainsmokers have had a little more competition to deal with, especially with the EDM genre becoming increasingly popular. There have been several new and upcoming artists that are releasing albums that have went to the number one spot, like Calvin Harris’ album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1. His album took over the number one sport for at least a few months. And another act, Avicii, who is from Sweden and also a great in the EDM genre, has recently popped back onto the charts as well. With all this competition, however, any time The Chainsmokers release a single or an album, you can be sure that it will definitely make its way to the number one spot, thus increasing their chances of holding down their record-breaking success.
